Construkt’s new Queenstown address

Construkt’s new Queenstown address

We’re thrilled to announce that Construkt’s Queenstown branch is officially open for business.

Completion of the office in Kelvin Heights signals our strong commitment to the Queenstown market. Dubbed Shimmer Lake, the building offers a Queenstown base for our Construkt team as we work to support Queenstown’s ambition to grow sustainably.

Queenstown, like Auckland, faces challenges with housing supply and affordability, struggling infrastructure, and urban planning. Queenstown deserves a well-considered masterplanned approach to density to ensure first-rate outcomes.

Crucially, emphasis must be placed on high-quality, contained growth. Growth should be limited in time but, for now, Queenstown has sufficient capacity, particularly with the aid of special housing areas, public-private partnerships and sympathetic infrastructure initiatives.

Construkt has a strong track record in medium-density design and has been a leading advocate for intensification in Auckland. Construkt director David Gibbs has been a vocal proponent of creating a compact city to address the housing crisis. He led the NZ Institute of Architects’ and Urban Design Forum’s participation in the Auckland Unitary Plan, which is helping to shape the city.

Construkt’s Queenstown address is a purpose-built space that serves as an office, corporate meeting venue and home. The design integrates remnants of an existing 1980’s house with innovative and simple features. The ground floor and a precast concrete upper ground floor is all that is left of the former house.

Shimmer Lake boasts stunning 360-degree views of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables. It includes an open-plan living area with large north-facing windows opening to a terrace with operable louvres. The house is a play of horizontal forms complemented by two stone towers that anchor the design.

The Construkt team would welcome the opportunity to show you their new space the next time you’re in the neighbourhood.
