Construkt In Hobsonville Point
One of the most ambitious developments in Auckland to date, converting the former airbase at Hobsonville Point in the upper Waitemata Harbour into a vibrant community the size of Devonport is a vast challenge.
Construkt has played a key role in masterplanning this community of 3,000 dwellings across 167ha. Working with Isthmus Group Ltd a design framework was prepared and The Buckley precinct of 60ha was chosen to be the first of several precincts to be developed into a full masterplan.
Construkt prepared a series of house typologies that informed the neighbourhood block make up, with key design features being connectedness, varying built density in key areas, a hierarchy of street types and variety of architectural form. The practice then further developed all housing typologies, allowing the client and developer partner to evaluate the feasibility of the project.
Since then Construkt has extended its involvement into designing individual houses, seeing the process right through to final construction. To date more than 300 homes – around a third of those built so far on the site – have been designed by Construkt.
