Contact Energy’s geothermal power station at Te Mihi, northwest of Taupo, is a $750 million project that will expand the use of the Wairakei steamfield. The new power station will be built near the 53-year-old Wairakei geothermal power station and will include two new steam turbine generators of 83 megawatts each.

Construkt’s engagement includes design management and resolution, service co-ordination and consenting for the turbine hall, and full design and documentation for the administration and control building.

When the new power station is completed in 2013, it will produce 166 megawatts of electricity. Older parts of the existing Wairakei power station will be decommissioned, so the net increase in output will be 114 megawatts – enough to power 100,000 homes.
