Construkt On The Move
In response to the challenges of the current economic climate, Construkt has been seeking to expand its existing client base by identifying areas of New Zealand that continue to experience activity in the housing sector, and those areas where Construkt have a current client base to build from. This has led to the decision earlier this year for Construkt to open a permanent office in the Waikato where Glenn Kevey, Construkt’s Technical Director is now based.

Some of our largest projects over the past two years have been in Hamilton, therefore being able to service these projects more efficiently by ‘being on the ground’ makes sense for both Construkt and these developer clients. Being based in the Waikato also allows Construkt to build on our recently completed work across the region to market to new local clients along with being in a stronger position to secure work in the surrounding regions of the Bay of Plenty and Rotorua District.

While there is a long-established friendly rivalry between Hamilton and Auckland, it wouldn’t be unfair to say that Auckland is many years ahead of the Waikato in establishing a market for Multi-unit housing, as well as providing aspirational examples to the Market of what good intensification means. It also wouldn’t be unfair to recognise the need for intensification has ‘crept up’ on many of the smaller centres in New Zealand growing out of the common factors of increasing land prices, and inadequate infrastructure.

In Hamilton in particular, this has led to many less than optimal examples of how density is handled, which also results in an understandable market resistance to intensification, however Construkt now have enough examples of ‘aspirational density’ in the Waikato we can highlight that we hope will the catalyst for elevating the market expectations for density in the region, along with building our client base for these projects in the region.

Glenn has relocated his family and himself to Cambridge, with Construkt’s office located at 60 Victoria Street, however he still travels to Auckland for a day and a half a week to oversee the Auckland based projects he is responsible for. And while currently all Waikato projects are documented out of Auckland the goal is that in time, Hamilton based staff will be employed in the Waikato office.
