Construkt Architects designed 47 Pembroke Street, a medium-density apartment development positioned on the corner of Pembroke and Palmerston Streets in Hamilton. The project provides 24 contemporary apartments across three levels, with secure basement parking, dedicated resident bike storage and a strong architectural presence on both street frontages.

The architectural design responds to the compact urban corner site by breaking the building into a series of related yet distinct forms. Light brickwork provides texture to the primary street-facing façade, while darker standing seam metal cladding and fibre cement panels introduce contrast.

Recessed balconies, architectural screening, varied window arrangements and planted edges articulate the exterior, providing privacy for residents while reducing the building's apparent scale.

At street level, defined boundaries, pedestrian entrances, landscaping and passive surveillance contribute to the relationship between the apartments and surrounding public spaces. These urban design considerations were also addressed in the supporting urban design report prepared by Construkt.

The development balances efficient apartment layouts with a considered architectural response to its corner site and the surrounding residential neighbourhood.
