Elmwood Retirement Village Residents Lounge
  • Project Interior Design for Resident’s Lounge
The residents’ lounge is designed as a warm, welcoming, and highly functional communal space that promotes comfort, social interaction, and a sense of calm. The overall aesthetic is contemporary yet timeless, achieved through a carefully balanced palette of natural materials, soft neutral tones, and layered lighting.

The lounge is thoughtfully zoned to support a variety of activities. Multiple seating arrangements are distributed throughout the space, allowing residents to choose between intimate conversations and larger group interactions. The layout feels open and uncluttered, while still maintaining a sense of enclosure and comfort within each seating cluster.

A strong emphasis is placed on natural, tactile materials to create a warm and residential atmosphere. Timber features prominently throughout the design, seen in the built-in shelving, wall panelling, and furniture frames. The wood grain introduces visual richness and continuity across the space. This is further complemented by upholstered seating in soft, muted fabrics, predominantly in shades of beige, taupe, and olive, adds comfort and durability, while remaining visually calming.

The lighting design combines natural and artificial sources to create a bright yet gentle environment. Large glazed doors and windows at the rear of the lounge allow abundant daylight to filter through sheer curtains, diffusing light evenly and reducing glare. Artificial lighting is warm-toned and integrated LED strip lighting within the shelving highlights decorative elements and adds depth. Feature wall sconces mounted on timber columns introduce a softer, ambient glow at eye level, enhancing visual comfort.
