Located in Long Bay, Auckland, the Awaruku Pump Station was designed to support the area’s growing residential infrastructure while integrating seamlessly into its suburban surroundings.
Construkt Architects led the architectural design and coordination, working alongside engineers and Watercare to ensure the facility met all technical, operational, and planning requirements. The station plays a key role in the local wastewater network, serving new and existing developments in the area.
The design responds to its residential context with a clean, understated architectural form. Durable precast concrete panels provide both structural integrity and visual consistency, while a pitched metal roof complements the surrounding built environment. Acoustic measures, including rated vents and strategic equipment placement, were incorporated to minimise noise impacts on nearby homes.
Maintenance access and operational efficiency were prioritised, with elements such as removable steel grating and robust internal waterproofing. The project required close coordination across disciplines to ensure seamless integration of specialist pump equipment within the building fabric.
The completed pump station is a functional, well-resolved piece of infrastructure that supports Long Bay’s development while remaining sensitive to its suburban setting.
